ABOUT I/GCSE CHEMISTRY
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT
The content of the I/GCSE chemistry curriculum is not the hard part. The tricky part is the new grading system (9-1) effective starting from 2018. Students with their performance in the A* boundary are now further categorized into Grade 7, 8 and 9, and thus, reaching the benchmark (165/200) is not enough. We need to work harder to improve your overall performance, in order to secure the top grade. For students who are interested in taking IBDP chemistry or Medicine/medical-related programs, you are advised to sit for triple (extended) science for chemistry.

STRATEGIES & FOCUS FOR GRADE 9
To secure a Grade 9, analyzing past papers under the guided supervision of your I/GCSE chemistry tutor is the key. As previously mentioned, exam questions don’t tend to change much from the previous years; sharing a similar pattern each year. Thus, the earlier we start practicing them, the better it is. Often, students will start practicing too late, which doesn’t leave enough time for revision or for them to brush up on their exam techniques. As a matter of fact, we aim to first cover and complete the curriculum early in advance, then fully focus on exam paper drilling and analysis to get yourself prepared and familiarized with the right approaches.

GETTING TO KNOW YOU BETTER
We aim to first develop a better understanding of your current performance level at I/GCSE chemistry. Depending on the student’s form, our assigned IGCSE Chem tutor may conduct an assessment. Initially, we would like to first clear the concepts that you may be struggling or are not familiar with at your school in Hong Kong. We’ll then plan a timeline tailored to your progress, before moving onto the upcoming topics in the following session. And thus we will have an idea of where to focus more on and where to improve for the planning of our upcoming Chemistry lesson

Each session is around 1.5 hours. Every one of our students will be individually followed up. We’ll first cover the topics explaining the main concepts and principles behind each. Following this, we’ll then go through a few selected tricky questions taken from past IGCSE/GCSE Chemistry exam papers, in order for your tutor to ensure you’re able to understand and familiarize yourself with the right approach and format of each chapter.
