IBDP Physics Question Analysis Topic: Physics - Short Questions

Exam Questions:

1) You are given two converging lenses of focal lengths 1.25 cm and 5 cm to design a compound microscope. If it is desired to have a magnification of 30, find out the separation between the objective and the eyepiece.

2) Define the term 'self-inductance' of a coil. Write its S.I. unit.

Answers:

For IBDP Physics, you should know:

1) The magnification of the compound microscope:
M = M
oMe ~~ -L 25 / fo fe

By substituting in the values, we get:
30 = L x 25 / 1.25 x 5
L = 7.5 cm

2) Self-inductance is the phenomenon in which an electromagnetic force is induced in the coil when either the magnetic flux linked with the coil changes, or when the current in the coil changes. Its S.I. unit is H, also known as Henry.
