For I/GCSE Physics, you should know:

Characteristics
Light emitted by an LED changes colour depending on its band gap energy.
Besides, its intensity hinges on the forward current by the p-n junction.

Advantages
1) LEDs have a relatively longer lifespan
2) LEDs are much more efficient than conventional light bulbs, saving up to 90% of energy.
3) LEDs can be physically smaller
4) LEDs have a greater colour rendering index, also known as CRI.
