GCSE Physics Question Analysis Topic: Physics - Ultraviolet
Exam Question:
1) Welders wear special goggles or face masks with glass windows to protect their eyes from electromagnetic radiations. Names the radiations and write the range of their frequency.
Answer:
For GCSE Physics, you should know:
1) UV rays, commonly known as ultraviolet rays, are shielded from the eyes by special goggles worn by welders.
A degree of eye protection from heat, visual radiation, and welding sparks is achieved thanks to such goggles. When welding, UV and IR radiations are produced that cannot be seen with the naked eye and can cause eye damage if the protective goggles are not worn.
The goggles are still considered the primary protection as they keep the eyes safe - even if the face shield or helmet is raised.
The frequency of UV rays ranges from 400 nm to 0.6 nm.
