1) Which reducing agent is employed to get copper from the leached low grade copper ore?

2) Some liquids on mixing form 'azeotropes'. What are 'azeotropes'?

3) Give one example each of sol and gel.

Answers:

For GCSE Chemistry, you should know:

1) To extract copper from leached low grade copper ore, iron scraps or hydrogen are used.

2) Azeotropes are mixtures of two liquids that can be distilled while maintaining their composition and boiling at a constant temperature. These are created by non-ideal solutions.

Examples:

HNO3+H2O
HCl+H2O
C2H5OH+CCl4
CHCl3+CH3COOCH3

3) Sol: Au, As2S3, S in water, paints, milk of magnesia.
Gel: cheese, butter, jellies.
