Answer:

For GCSE Chemistry, you should know:

Adsorption is the process of a substance's molecules being drawn to and held on the surface of a liquid or a solid, increasing the concentration of those molecules there, e.g. charcoal gas masks.

Adsorption is a crucial stage in heterogeneous catalysis, and it plays a key role in the process. It is the process by which an adsorbate (a gas or solution phase molecule) attaches to the surface atoms of a solid or liquid (the adsorbent).
