A-Level Biology Question Analysis Topic: Biology - Short Questions

Exam Questions:

1) State the cause of adenosine deaminase enzyme deficiency.

2) Enlist the steps involved in inbreeding of cattle. Suggest two disadvantages of this practice.

Answers:

For A-Level Biology, you should know:

1) A chromosome 20 gene mutation leads to adenosine deaminase enzyme deficiency, a disease. Adenosine deaminase (ADA), an enzyme, is encoded by the gene. The body can't break down the hazardous chemical deoxyadenosine without this enzyme. T and B lymphocytes, which are immune cells that combat infections, are both increased and destroyed by the toxin.

2) Inbreeding is the practice of breeding animals of the same breed for 5–6 generations.

The following are the steps of inbreeding:

The animals of the same breed that have a high yielding capability are mated.
Then, the offsprings are evaluated.
A second mating occurs between the superior male and female.

There are two drawbacks to inbreeding:

There is a rise in homozygosity.
Inbreeding depression results from it.
