In IBMYP (IB Middle Years Programme) Science, also commonly referred to as MYP Science, there are a variety of subjects covered, ranging from Biology to Chemistry, to Physics. Students who choose MYP Science will be tested in four areas, and students will have to face written examinations, perform presentations and lab experiments.

Criterion A: Knowing and Understanding

Criterion B: Inquiring and Designing

Criterion C: Processing and Evaluating

Criterion D: Reflecting on the Impacts of Science

With most science streams focusing on strict standards and a rigid curriculum, MYP Science offers a relatively different approach. Each school adhering to the IB standard has their own question-and-answer methods, depth of knowledge and lesson plans. Still, students are expected to learn several new topics in the span of a semester.

Another surprise by those that choose MYP science, is that the given research topics are broad and answering it will require drawing knowledge from several topics, possibly even breaching an answer that will require knowledge of Physics for a paper on Biology. These topics range from ethics on animal experiments and how antibiotic resistance will decide the future of the immune system.

Students are often prepared for the more rigid questions and answers of other examination streams, but not as much for the aspects of research. The jargon is usually specific to each topic, and requires intimate knowledge of the topic. Presenting their topic is also more difficult.
