IBMYP MATHEMATICS
In IBMYP (IB Middle Years Programme) Mathematics, also commonly referred to as MYP Mathematics/Math(s), students undergo 5 years of learning, covering more advanced topics by the year. However, since there is no strict curriculum, the school may teach the students these topics in any order they deem appropriate.
Criterion A: Knowing and Understanding
Criterion B: Investigating Patterns
Criterion C: Communicating
Criterion D: Applying Mathematics in Real-Life Contexts
With no examinations, students will instead be assessed on their understanding of mathematics based on tests each semester, assignments and project submissions.
Mathematics, when studied at an early age, is a formulaic subject, but at more advanced stages, will require more critical thinking. Each calculation has several components, and even with a formula sheet, a standardized test will be hard to perform, if one does not study.
At Tuttee, we emphasize not only knowing how to answer the question, but to understand the fundamentals of the topic. Most students, unfortunately, opt out of trying to understand the rationale behind a mathematical theory. However, we believe that a theory becomes much easier to understand, once presented with a proper visual. In MYP Mathematics, when the theories become harder, understanding the concept will aid students in the heat of an examination.
