UCAT Question Analysis - Abstract Reasoning Q22

broken image

What is the best interpretation of the following code?

114(D), (101, 102), H, K (2,6)

The distance between us and the stars is increasing

The universe is contracting

The universe is expanding

The universe will shrink as time increases

We are separated from the stars by time and space

 Answer and Explanation

(114, D), (101, 102), H, K (2,6) translates as Opposite (Shrink), (Time, Space), Apply, Separate (Us, Stars).

'The universe is expanding' is the correct answer. An increase (Opposite (Shrink), in time and space (the fabric of the universe) which is then applied to the separation between us and the stars may be interpreted as the universe is expanding.

'The distance between us and the stars is increasing' does not interpret expansion of 'time'

'The universe is contracting' does not make use of 'opposite'

'The universe will shrink as time increases' does not make use of 'opposite'

'We are separated from the stars by time and space' does not make use of 'opposite (shrink)'
