2) Aluminium crystallizes in an FCC structure. Atomic radius of the metal is 125 pm. What is the length of the side of the unit cell of the metal?
Answers:
For I/GCSE Chemistry, you should know:
1) The IUPAC name is: 2,2-Dimethyl-3-chlorobutane.
2) For a face-centered cubic unit cell structure (FCC), let's define the following variables:
a: edge of the cube
r: radius of atom
We're given that r = 125 pm.
So, putting that into a = 2√2r, we get:
2 x 1.414 x 125 pm = approx. 354 pm
Work hard for your I/GCSE Chemistry examination!
End of analysis. Great!
