GCSE Physics Question Analyses Topic: Physics - Short Questions
Exam Questions:
1) Write two properties of a material suitable for making (a) a permanent magnet, and (b) an electromagnet.
2) Write two advantages of a reflecting telescope over a refracting telescope.
Answer:
For GCSE Physics, you should know:
1) The material used to create a permanent magnet should have both a high coercivity value (the strength of the applied magnetic field needed to reduce the material's magnetization to zero once the sample's magnetization has been driven to saturation) and a good retentivity value (capacity to remain magnetized after the external magnetizing field has ceased to exist).
The materials that can be used to create electromagnets, on the other hand, should have high retentivity and low coercivity.
2) As the objective of a reflecting-type telescope is a mirror, there is no chromatic aberration. Moreover, the image is brighter than the one produced by a refracting telescope.
