**GCSE** **Mathematics**** Question Analysis Topic: Mathematics - Circles**

**Exam Question:**

Find the area of the shaded region if ABCD is a rectangle with sides 8cm and 6cm and O is the center of circle.(Take π =3.14)

**Answer:**

For GCSE Mathematics, you should know:__Information given:__**DA = CB = 6 cmDC = AB = 8 cm**

In the diagram:

The **diameter **of the circle = The **diagonal **of the rectangle

Hence, the radius is 12√(6^{2}+8^{2}) = 5 cm

The area of the circle: πr^{2}= π(5)^{2 }= 25π =78.5 cm^{2}

The area of the rectangle is 6 × 8 = 48 cm^{2}

As such, the area of the **shaded region** can be calculated by the area of the circle − the area of the rectangle is 78.5 − 48 = 30.5 cm^{2}

Work hard for your GCSE Mathematics examination!

End of analysis. Great!
