Exam Questions:

1) Shanti, a domestic helper of Mrs. Anuradha, fainted while mopping the floor. Mrs. Anuradha immediately took her to the nearby hospital where she was diagnosed to be severely 'anaemic'. The doctor prescribed an iron rich diet and multivitamins supplement to her. Mr.s Anuradha supported her financially to get the medicines. After a month, Shanti was diagnosed to be normal.
(i) What values are displayed by Mrs. Anuradha?
(ii) Name the vitamin whose deficiency causes 'pernicious anaemia'.
(iii) Give an example of a water soluble vitamin

2) What is a biodegradable polymer? Given an example of biodegradable aliphatic polyester.

Answers:

For GCSE Chemistry, you should know:

1) (i) Moral and humanitarian values have been displayed.
(ii) A common cause of pernicious anemia is the
loss of stomach cells, which help the body absorb the vitamin B12.
(iii) An example is a
vitamin B-complex group thiamin (vitamin B1).

2) Biodegradable polymers are those that decompose due to the activity of microorganisms and enzymes in either an aerobic or an anaerobic environment.

Materials such as cellulose, polyesters, and starch are generally used to develop it. Among this kind of polymers, aliphatic polyesters are the most widely utilised.
