A-Level Biology Question Analysis Topic: Biology - Origin of Life

Exam Question:

Write the Oparin and Haldane's hypothesis about the origin of life on earth. How does meteorite analysis favour this hypothesis?

Answer:

For A-Level Biology, you should know:

Oparin and Haldane argued that the first form of life may have originated from organic molecules that were previously nonliving and that the emergence of life was preceded by chemical evolution. High temperatures, volcanic storms, and a decreasing atmosphere with ammonia, methane, hydrogen, and water vapours were the conditions on Earth. Similar molecules were found in meteorite samples during analysis, which suggests that similar processes take on elsewhere in space.
