  • ALL those people allergic to garlic are ALSO allergic to cheese.
  • SOME people who are allergic to pasta are also allergic to cheese.

Which diagram best represents the information above?

Answer: A

Explanation: all those allergic to cheese are allergic to garlic. The cheese circle must be entirely included within the garlic circle. This excludes Diagram B.

Those allergic to tomatoes can eat garlic or cheese. So it means that the tomato circle is totally separated from the garlic circle (which contains the cheese circle). This excludes Diagram D.

We know that some people allergic to tomatoes cannot eat pasta so the pasta circle must cross the tomato circle, but the pasta circle cannot entirely contain the tomato circle otherwise it would mean that all those allergic to tomatoes are also allergic to pasta. Also, we know that all those allergic to pasta are also allergic to cheese, so we get:
