I/GCSE Biology - The effect of changing environments

The effect of changing environments

· igcse biology,gcse biology,Ecology,Adaptations,species

The effect of changing environments is commonly asked in I/GCSE Biology!!!! SO LET'S GET STARTED! 😛

Changing environments

  • Difficult for organisms to live in a place where the conditions have changed
  • Distribution ➡️ the area of the environment in which a specie lives

What's happened if the environment is changed?

  • May be easy for other organisms to move in and compete
  • May cause a change in the distribution of species
For example:
  • UK – changing weather each season or direction of wind
  • Organisms in UK cope with this change
  • Short term changes
  1. freak storms (flooding) or extreme temperature ➡️ kills organisms
  • Long term conditions
  1. climate change

In I/GCSE Biology, it'd be better to memorize the effect of changing environment on birds and on bees!

The effect on birds

  • Some birds 🐦 expand their breeding range and to other continents
  • Some birds 🐦 instead of migrating each winter stay year round as there is more insect food available
  • Some species suffer from lack of food
  • Average sea temperature raised by 1°C ➡️ scientists link to loss of sand eels (birds eat)

The effect on bees

Do you remember that we've talked about climate change in I/GCSE Biology before?

  • Rapid decrease of bees 🐝 ➡️ wild + kept by beekeepers
  • Can be due to climate change and loos of wildflowers ➡️ increased building + farming
  • Hard for bees 🐝 to get food if there’s a cold, wet spring
  • Warm wintersmite parasite 🐛 survive ➡️ destroyed bees 🐝 in hives
  • Loss of range of plants  ⬅️ due to farmers

And we're done with this topic! Well Done!
