Exam Questions:

1) Name the part of the flower which the tassels of the corn-cob represent.

2) Write the scientific name of the fruit-fly. Why did Morgan prefer to work with fruit-flies for his experiments? State any three reasons.

Answer:

For GCSE Biology, you should know:

1) At the top of corn stalks, there are male flowers with tassels. Pollen is produced, and the wind carries it to female flowers to fertilise them.

2) The fruit fly's scientific name is Drosophila melanogaster.

Reasons:
Fruit flies are readily available and can be raised and developed in laboratories.

It may be bred all year long to produce several generations despite having a short life span of only two weeks.

Because of their larger bodies than men, women can be clearly distinguished from them.
