BMAT Prep Question Analysis - Q107 & Q146a

Q107 A car is pulling into a motorway petrol station and has slowed to a complete stop. Whilst the car was slowing down, which of the following options was true?

Q146 The diagram shows elements of the Periodic table.

Q146a Which of the above options correctly describes Carbon-12?

Answer and Explanation

Q107 Answer: b: Velocity positive, acceleration negative

Explanation: The car is still moving forwards so the velocity is positive. The acceleration must be negative as it is slowing down.

Q146a Answer: a. A

Explanation: The top left number is the Atomic Mass, which is the sum of protons and neutrons. The bottom left number is the Atomic Number, which is the number of protons (also equivalent to the number of electrons). The number of protons is thus the Atomic Mass number minus the Atomic Number. Carbon-12 thus has 6 protons (Atomic Number), 6 electrons and 6 neutrons.
