Weight and Circular Motion

What is mass?šŸ˜…

Mass is the amount of matter or stuff present in an object.

  • Mass- for any object mass is constant anywhere in the universe
  • A scalar quantity .- Measured in Kilograms

What is weight?🤣

It is the force acting on an object due to the gravitational pull

  • Measure of the gravitational pull on an object
  • Measured in Newtons
  • Measured using a newton meter

Weight(N)=mass(kg)  multiplied by gravitational field strength  (N//kg)

  • Gravitational field strength varies with location
  • Is stronger-closer you are to the mass causing the field
  • Bigger objects cause stronger fields
In I/GCSE Physics, you will have to know the difference between mass and weight.

Circular MotionšŸš™

Velocity-both speed and direction of an object

  • if an object is moving in a circle- it is constantly changing direction so it is constantly changing velocity - it is accelerating
  • This means there is a resultant force acting on it
  • The change of velocity is towards the centre of the circle, acceleration changes direction but not speed
  • Force which keeps something moving is a centripetal force
