GCSE Mathematics Question Analysis Topic: Mathematics - Trigonometry

Exam Question:

The angle of depression of a car parked on the road from the top of a 150 m high tower is 30. The distance of the car from the tower (in metres) is..?

Answer:

For GCSE Mathematics, you should know:

Let's consider the givens i.e., height of tower = 150m, angle of depression = 30.

Then, draft the following diagram.

In triangle ABC, let the distance of the car from the tower (BC) be x m.

As such, tan 30 in triangle ABC would be AC / AB = 1 / √3, i.e. the distance between the tower and the car is AC = 150√3.

Work hard for your GCSE Mathematics examination!

End of analysis. Great!
