Blood Vessels

In I/GCSE biology,

  • Artery - carries blood AWAY from the blood.

  • Vein - carries blood TO the heart

Physical System

In I/GCSE biology curriculum, there are some key points:
  • Liver - Produces a large amount of body heat.
  • Hepatic-Portal Vein - Carries blood with lots of glucose.
  • Renal Vein - Blood that is low in urea from the kidneys to the heart
  • Brain - Responsible for memory
  • Vena Cava - Carries deoxygenated blood to the heart
  • Hepatic  Artery - Carries blood to the liver from the heart
  • Aorta - Main artery of the body
  • Pulmonary Vein - Carries oxygenated blood from the lungs back to the heart
  • Lungs - Responsible for lungs.
  • Heart - Pumps blood around the body
  • Renal Artery - carries blood to the kidney from the heart.
  • Hepatic Vein - Carries blood from the liver to the heart
  • Pulmonary Artery - Carries deoxygenated blood from the heart to the lungs
  • Reproductive Organs - Contains eggs and sperm.
  • Small Intestine - Absorbs food into the kidneys
  • Kidneys - Produces urine.

Heart

  • Pulmonary Artery - Carries deoxygenated blood to the lungs
  • Right Ventricle - Pumps blood to the lungs
  • Heart Strings - Stops the valves from turning inside- out
  • Vena Cava - Carries deoxygenated blood into the heart from the body
  • Left Atrium - Pumps oxygenated blood into the Left Ventricle
  • Right Atrium - Pumps deoxygenated blood into the Right Ventricle.
  • Pulmonary Vein - Carries oxygenated blood from the lungs to the heart
  • Cardiac Muscle - Special muscle that never stops beating
  • Coronary Artery - Provide the cardiac muscle with oxygen and glucose
  • Semi-lunar Valves - Stops the blood flowing back into the ventricles.
  • Atria-Ventricular Valves - Stops the blood flowing back into the Atria.
  • Aorta - Carries oxygenated blood around the body
  • Left Ventricle - the largest of the 4 chambers in the heart.
