BIOL - Prokaryotes Vs Eukaryotes - The Battle of Differences

Biology, Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic cells - DSE | GCE | IAL

April 20, 2020

It’s evident that all living organisms are made up of one or more cells. It's undeniable that they are the basic unit of life. The ultimate duo - also known as the Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic cell is the mains which then further separate into plant and animal cells.

Hang in there, you got this!! 💪

The two are often mentioned together and have similarities such as being bounded by a cell membrane and their genetic material being the infamous DNA. However, the two have plenty of differences worth knowing such as follows:

1) The Prokaryotic cell doesn't have a true nucleus when the eukaryotic cell does. I know mind- blown! The nucleus of the latter one is surrounded by the nuclear membrane.

2) Just memorize this one, don't even try! 😭 Ready? The prokaryotic cell is NOT bounded by a double membrane such as mitochondria and nucleus while eukaryotic is!

3) For Prokaryote cell, they don't have a nucleus or nuclear membrane, which is why the DNA is all over the place in the cytoplasm! This makes them mutate quickly as there is no nucleus to enclose or protect them. This highlights the importance of the nucleus!

Leave the notes be and- SLEEP!!
